Essentials for a Beach Day done Sustainably

By Claire Jentsch

In case you missed it, last week’s post focused on staying mindful when you’re busy, stressed, and can’t sneak out of work for a nap on the beach. We thought it would be fitting to dedicate this week to the glorious days when you can escape to the sea for some rest and relaxation, so we’ve compiled the essentials for a fabulous and fair-trade friendly beach day!

First, you’ll need something to pack your beach essentials in, like this boho-chic bucket bag from Hiptipico. Then, pack this handwoven towel from The Little Market to lay on if you’re the lounging and reading type, or to dry off with if you’re a surfer.

Don’t forget the all-important sunscreen (this one from Coola is a great organic alternative to traditional brands that can irritate your skin) and easy-to-transport beach snacks. Fill a cooler with mason jars full of premade cocktails (mango caiprinhas would be perfect) and chévre cheese to pair with these addictive crackers from Trader Joe’s.

Now that you’re packed, slip into our breezy butterfly caftan. This versatile beauty can be worn from the beach to an evening out on the town without breaking a sweat. (Literally, because the fabric is light enough to keep you cool all day.)

While you’re hanging out on the shore listening to your favorite summer bands (we’re partial to Band of Horses and The Decemberists), pair the dress with elegant, comfy sandals from Feelgoodz, these sunglasses from Warby Parker and this sunhat from Tula Hats for a vintage glam look.

When you’re ready to leave the beach (if one can ever really be ready), swap the hat and flat shoes for these Fortress of Inca wedges, Soko earrings, and Akola necklace. The look is upscale enough for dinner at your favorite patio restaurant, but keeps the boho-chic feel for the after-dinner concert you’re headed to.

The point of beach day is to rest, recuperate, and enjoy life’s small pleasures. Do what feeds your soul, whether it’s sleeping, beach volleyball, reading, surfing, snorkeling, or talking for hours with close friends, and pack items that are not only a joy to look at, but that help other people around the globe experience the joy of financial empowerment and self-determination.

Now that you have your packing list, what are you waiting for? We’re heading to the beach, and you should too!
